bloody insomnia

Been awake since about 2 a.m. Have now given up, got up and made tea.

To while away the time, over the past couple of hours, I have (in my head):

  • Drafted an e-mail to a client explaining why I think we would be better to move them to WordPress
  • Tried to work out how we manage the impending web server moves
  • Written about three draft postings for Photocena
  • Done the next few months’ cashflow
  • Pondered further about buying a Wii and a Wii Fit – gonna do it
  • Started planning a menu for Come Dine with Me, which I might just apply to do

Now the bloody birds are making a racket, and I fear sleep will continue to elude me 🙁

  1. Re: the Wii. You won’t regret it. We don’t have Wii Fit (yet), but the Wii Sports games are excellent and it’s a great way to get people to play together.

Nic and I love our Ninty – we play together for a couple of hours each week and then Nic plays some games on her own during the working week (at the moment I don’t have the time to join her). If our Wii broke tomorrow, I’d be buying a replacement on Saturday; I consider it to be better ‘value’ entertainment (and of a better ‘quality’) than the telly. 🙂

    1. Well, it would be hard to think of worse value than the television, really.

I’m quite interested in Guitar Hero (she said, quietly) – how much is a second guitar?

      1. In theory, you can buy a second guitar at the time of purchasing the initial game/guitar pack, certainly from larger Game stores, and in theory it’s about £40 I believe.

In practise, they are sufficiently hard to find at the moment that you might come to the same conclusion that we did – it’s just easier to buy a second copy of the whole thing. It can be found online for about £60 so you end up spending £120 for the 2 games/guitars.

If you can find a second guitar without game, you might save yourself £10-£20 but after a few days of empty promises and dealers taking the mickey (£50 for what sounded like a full-pack with the game disc simply ‘removed’, from one guy), you might end-up deciding it’s not worth the hassle.

The stock levels are apparently getting better, mind you, so they might be easier to find now.

          1. You can actually play the game with the Wiimote (ie, without a guitar).

I haven’t done this, so I don’t know how well it actually works in practise. 🙂

    2. Wii

Yes – since we got the wii, I haven’t really used the other console, and both $wife and I have played it fairly often, as well as roped in family to play.

The Wii, and most of the decent games for it, are designed for casual play and that just happens to be all we have time for since the little one arrived last february.

Wii fit is quite cool, the variety of games is pretty good, but I don’t think you could spend more than an hour or so a week playing it for long.

So far we’ve only bought 2 games for it (and got wii sports included) : Pirates Of The Caribean and Wii Fit both are very good fun.

Also contrary to the advice in the pamphlets, most wii games are especially good fun after a glass of wine with friends 🙂

        1. Re: Wii

          ah yes 🙂

We got ours in the same way as the Wii : because somebody in the family works in Tescos and one of their friends were able to hold it for us until we drove down there with the cash.

My goodness, you’re brave. I don’t think I could stand all the cattiness. Or have I got the wrong programme?

    1. It’s a fascinating show – I’ve only just discovered it.

I don’t do raspberry coulis or drizzling (well, not much :), but I’m a better cook than most of the folk I’ve seen on there.

But to me, having people over for supper is so I can spend time with them, not spend the evening in the kitchen, so I nearly always do casserole-y things.

So it could be interesting …

  3. Oh I love Come Dine With Me and think you’d be great on it as long as you don’t get a monster like Claudette who was on this evening’s show!
