New Road, Edward!

perlmonger and I went to Swansea today, to pick up these speaker stands from eBay. We were not pleased, when we returned from a 160 mile round trip, to find that the carpet spikes, which should be supplied with the stands, are missing. No doubt there will be protracted wrangling with the vendor, and we’ll end up without the damn things, and the stands are unusable without.

Still while we were in Welsh Wales, we picked up kalunina‘s cashmas gift, with which we are well pleased. And we did something we very rarely do – we had a Burger King. I feel ashamed really, but I’d only had a bowl of porridge all day, and it was cold, and there it was. We had a Three Pepper thing, which actually wasn’t too bad. And we drove home across the Brecons in the winter sun, and to a spectacular sunset across the Severn Bridge, which was also nice.

Yesterday, we blitzed the living room which was an absolute *tip*, and took a car load of stuff to the tip – all the boxes from the new equipment, which I didn’t want to leave out for the recyclers, the plastic bottles, etc. Then over to Woolworths for a couple of bits, and a quick trip into Next, where perlmonger *bought some new trousers* – and a shirt! And I bought a nice green woolly sweater. Then off to our favourite local restaurant for .. well, not lunch really, but a 4 p.m. meal.

Should anyone care about the rest of the week…
After the Currys debacle on Tuesday, I did a search on their web site, and a reserve and collect on the television from the Fishponds branch. We went over the next day at lunchtime – plenty of staff, stock, and 4 free rolls of wrapping paper (no, we didn’t ask). All went remarkably well until the chap had wheeled the box out of the store on his sack barrow.

Should you ever go shopping for a 32″ TFT television, let me tell you that it won’t fit in a Mitsubishi FTP. Thankfully, there was a Focus over the road, so I popped (or nipped) over and bought a boot strap, and we conveyed it home carefully. Pete moved the old one out of the way _very_ carefully, by means of the wheeled pouffe (which we always call the Uphill Gardener), and a chap came over that evening to take it away for his Yoof Club. The telly is vair nice indeed – I’m well chuffed.

On Thursday we went back to see the Potential Very Big Client in High Wycombe. I’m extremely pleased to say that he is no now longer potential, but a fully fledged member of the Horus client base – Hurrah! An interesting intranet project, and one which will be a long term development … just the sort we like.

We drove back from HW across the country roads, and stopped at Ikeal on the way home to take another look at the sofa we want. We also chose a chair, and a small dining table and chairs, and will be able to order them in January – can’t wait.

So that’s it, really – I’m going to give Cranford a go tonight, and see if it’s as good as everyone says. Off to put my feet up!

  1. Aha, the very stands I use with my Linn Kans (the only non-Linn piece of kit in my system in fact. Except being an Unreconstructed Bachelor mine are in black, natch). They will serve you well. Lead shot works very well in them.
