      1. Once upon a time, I used to enjoy the Today programme, though in these post-Hutton times I find it reminiscent of pre-glasnost Radio Moscow in its slavish devotion to the Party line. Where are journalists like Brian Redhead, Bill Hardcastle and Charles Wheeler when we need them?

        1. Today used to set the news agenda; these days it slavishly follows the Daily Mail and Express – it’s gone from broadsheet to pretentious “serious” tabloid.

I know the programme was heavily reformatted a few years ago – they cut most of the foreign news out of it, concentrated a lot more on “ishoos” and “how they affect you”… and went for a lot more confrontational interviewing — taking all of the real journalism out of it – I mostly stopped listening when it became obvious that Humphrys’ ego was the most important thing on it.

  1. Gareth appears to have all of the worst culprits present and correct, including the fact that Home Truths jumped the shark the day that Peel carked it. He had better not lay a finger on Charlotte though.

It’s a big surprise regarding the absence of the odious and condescending You and Yours; Veg Talk is nowhere near as terrible as some of the other listed monstrosities. But why no Round Britain Quiz, Moral Maze, or Daily Service in this particular Room 101?

    1. Oh, hey, give the man a break … he could only choose ten. (Actually, I used to like Round Britain Quize a lot, in the old days, when I couldn’t answer the questions.)
