what a good idea. Bung one of these in your cistern, and save 3 litres per flush.
only £6.99 for three, including VAT and postage. Available here

Anglian Water will provide you with a “Freddie Frog”, Anglian Water’s water displacement device (similar to the hippo) for free if you email them on INTSVCS@anglianwater.co.uk
Severn Trent Water also have a water saver in the form of “save a flush”

I’m sure other companies do too.
What happened to using a brick ?
That was my thought. And the old mantra still rings true:
If it’s yellow, it’s mellow, but if it’s brown, flush it downn
As I understand it, bricks slowly degrade, leaving you wish mush on the bottom of the cistern and a jammed flush mechanism.
I just read that here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/water/story/0,,1776484,00.html
and now I think on, we were advised to wrap it in heavy duty plastic and tape it up.
Depends on the brick – blue / damp-proof course ones should be ok.
Anyway.. this is a thick plastic bag with some holes in. You could DIY for rather less than £2.33 each.
