Clip-on ties, like those worn by police officers, are regulation uniform at Bramhall High School in Stockport.

  1. I can see some twisted sense in this as I nearly choked myself yesterday when I unwittingly caught a knotted scarf in the zipper of my cardigan and made a series of attractive bullfrog noises while trying to remove the whole thing from my neck. Then again, perhaps it would have been one step forward for the gene pool to leave it.

  2. That was true at my primary school in the US. We all wore clip on ties because otherwise running around the playground playing tag or whatever really could lead to a problem … and it meant that we couldn’t leave the tie knot half undone and look “cool/dreadful”!

  3. I once had a secondary school teacher that used to like grabbing us by the ties and either smack our heads on the desk or “hang” us with them.

    Ahh happy days…
