this week's veg box

From Box Bush Farm, £15 bought us:

  • 1 bag potatoes
  • 1 bag carrots
  • 1 bag rather nice pale green beans
  • 1 bag small chestnut-y mushrooms
  • 1 bag rocket
  • 1 lettuce
  • 1 bag spinach
  • 2 small cabbages
  • 1 bunch asparagus
  • apples, oranges, bunch of bananas

Difficult week, as we have people round for Eurovision tonight (cooking Indian, details later), and are away for a few days from Friday morning.

Must use up asparagus, spinach, rocket first. Will ponder. Suggestions welcome.

  1. Is it too late to suggest that you have the asparagus for today’s lunch?

I would blanch it, lightly oil it and put it on a griddle for a few minutes while you make a very rich scrambled egg, with lots of cream and butter and left very loose, to pile on top of the tips of the asparagus.

Yum! I wish I had some in the fridge, but I ate mine a few days ago cooked exactly like this.

  2. Well, I’d put the apples, oranges, bananananas and carrots in the “snack bag” which always sit astern of the cubby in the D. If we’er away for more than a couple of days, there also goes any remaining eggs (hard boiled) tomaotes, etc.

Not so useful if you’re flying to a police state.

  3. Sounds like a salad to me. Blanch the asparagus, wash and spin the spinach and rocket, grill some nice lean bacon, and shave in some well-aged parmesan. Dress the greens, plate individually and place the bacon and parmesan on top of each serving.
